Degree & Certificate Information

The Center for Global Environmental Education (CGEE) at Hamline University and the Audubon Center of the North Woods have joined together to offer both a Master’s Degree and a Certificate in Environmental Education. All of the courses we outline here are taught at the Audubon Center by the Center's professional staff.

Environmental Education Certificate
The Certificate Courses are divided into five different areas. The completion of the certificate requires 10 credits– 2 credits in each of the following 5 areas:
Area 1. EE Fundamentals
Area 2. Earth Systems and Ecology
Area 3. Environmental Issues
Area 4. Special Topics
Area 5. Teaching Methods for EE

Environmental Education Master’s Degree

All credits earned for the Certificate will count towards the Master’s Degree. Includes a substantial number of courses offered online allowing students outside of the metro area to complete the program in 18 months. Thirty-five credits are required for the completion of the Master’s Degree.
New ideas for the new year. Graduate courses at Hamline have always been presented in a way that allows people who have jobs to continue their work and complete their degree. To that end, we are always looking for new ideas and new options. Watch for these changes:
  • Some of our weekend courses will become blended courses - there will be a week on-line a day in the field and a week of on-line follow up.
  • On-line courses have all been 3 credits and three months. We are now going to have some courses that are one month, one credit. Less time commitment, easier to fit in to a teachers schedule.
